Academic Activities

Research.  (70% appt.) Dr. Odle’s program is focused in the area of neonatal nutrition and metabolism.  Emphasis is on developmental aspects of lipid digestion, absorption and metabolism at the molecular, cellular and whole-animal level. Other research includes effects of dietary carnitine and medium-chain triglycerides on growth and effects of bioactive peptides and polyunsaturated fatty acids on development of the neonatal intestine.  Applied research includes the development of practical facilities for milk-replacer feeding on commercial swine farms and effects of dietary fat on pork quality.

Teaching.  (30% appt.) Dr. Odle’s teaching includes an upper level graduate course cross listed with biochemistry entitled Regulation of Metabolism.  He also teaches 50% of the graduate Nutrition course on Vitamin Metabolism and coordinates the graduate Nutrition Seminar.
